Maya Angelou was a St. Louis native and one of America’s most celebrated poets, authors and civil rights activists. George Weber was the car dealer who asked people to buy American — even if they didn’t buy from him. Howard DeMere was St. Louis’ only TV weatherman when he went on the air at Channel 5 in 1949. His signature signoff was, “That’s all from here, Howard DeMere.” They were among this year’s notable deaths.
